CHAPTER 43 THE GLOWING PENDANT

The forest was quiet; the only sound was from crickets and frogs with some hissing, which naturally suggested snakes as I trailed behind Minerva. She was relentless; her steps were quick and determined, and her eyes were fixed ahead.
I knew she had a grudge against me, but I hadn't expected her to follow me this far into the woods. The air was thick with tension; each breath I took seemed to hang in the stillness, unabsorbed by the trees or the earth.
"Minerva, wait!" I called out, my voice cutting through the silence. She didn't slow down; she didn't even glance back. I quickened my pace, the underbrush crackling underfoot.
She directed her phone flashlight towards the bodies, allowing me to discern the intricate carvings on the thighs of one limb.
Minerva squints as she looks at the markings.
Try not to go blind, I teased as she looked up at me, glaring her fiery eyes.
She ignored me and went forward, and I followed; ahead of us, something gleamed on the forest flo
