Chapter 1

A loud bang on the door awakens Gunner from his deep sleep. He groaned in frustration and, rather than answering, took a pillow and covered his face. He knows it was Gabbi and he owes her a tour here in Japan. He promised to take her to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove on the last day of her vacation in Japan. 'Hey, Gun! Open up right now! You said you were going to tour me in Kyoto!" she yelled from behind the closed door. After hearing this, Gunner groans and finally gets out of bed to open the door for her. His hair was shabby and used to be slicked. He let her into his cluttered room, and he was unsurprised by her reaction. "Oh my goodness! Is this your space?" she exclaimed, and he simply nodded his head in response. Gunners aren't used to having visitors, but this one is an exception for the time being. She helped him for a while, and he simply returned the favor. He despises having someone help him and then not returning the favor. He'd been in this situation since his twin brother went missing. Until he was declared dead. They were only two in this world, and now he was alone. However, he believes that his brother is simply waiting to be rescued. How many nights had he spent searching the internet and the news for anything that could lead him to his twin brother, but nothing had come up? Nonetheless, he had not given up hope. He hadn't gotten enough sleep, but it didn't bother him. He used to be a detective, and it makes him sick to think of himself as a detective when he can't even find a clue as to where his brother is. 'Uhm, hello? Earth to Gunner." Gabbi snapped her finger in front of his face. She appears irritated, but Gunner only looks at her for a few seconds. "Do you want coffee while I get ready?" Gunner inquired as he walked over to his coffee maker. It was his energizer, and he couldn't live without his coffee machine. "I do like it black," she said, and Gunner nodded. He poured coffee into two small cups. Gabbi sighed as her gaze wandered around the room. "I'm only here for a few weeks for a vacation, but I've heard a lot about you," she explained, and Gunner was not surprised. He and his twin brother are detectives, and Japan is well aware of this. They are well-known in society. "I'm not surprised," he said, putting her cup of coffee in front of her. She added a teaspoon of sugar, causing Gunner to scrunch his brow. "I should have made you a creamy coffee if you had put in an amount of sugar," he says, making Gabbi laugh. She pretended to fan herself with her hand and smiled, displaying her pearly whites. "Oh, don't worry about it. I like it black with a little sugar because it reminds me of home. This is how my grandmother makes me coffee," she replied. 'So, back to what I have said earlier. You have a twin brother but I don't see him here. Where is he?" she asked and he thought she already had gossip about him. Nothing here makes your life private unless you are an outcast. "He's gone," he said flatly, because it was just him. He is not the type to initiate a circle of conversation. He is direct and to the point. He doesn't want to talk for long, but now that he has a visitor, he should learn how to be polite, even if only for a day. She was stunned and covered her mouth with her hands, whispering. 'Missing?" She mumbled in the air, as if someone could hear her, her eyes wide open. Gunner nodded and sipped his coffee. Taking his denim jacket from the cabinet, he combs his hair in front of the mirror. He didn't have time to take a bath, but he might do so after his tour. "But you're a detective," she points out, drawing Gunner's attention to her. He knew it wasn't her intention and that nothing was going through her mind, but it pricked his heart if it came from someone else. He is, indeed, a detective. A detective who can't seem to find a single piece of information. "Yes, yes I am," he replied, a smile on his face that didn't quite reach his eyes. "This has got to be the most difficult case you've ever dealt with in your entire life," she said, and she was right. Gunner tied his shoelaces and was ready to go. "Shall we go?" He said, and Gabbi nodded enthusiastically. 'Whoa! Is this even true?" Gabbi exclaimed, amused, as she took a step in the direction she desired. They've already arrived at Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Yes, the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto was one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Japan. It was Gunner's and his twin brother's favorite place to unwind. "It makes me feel as if I'm in an anime world." I feel like I'm Mitsuha right here right now," she exclaimed, pointing to herself. Gabbi took out her phone and began tapping on the screen. "I'm going to play a song for you. The sparkle one is appropriate here. Ugh! I'm completely smitten! I plan to return to this place soon. Thank you, Gunner, for getting me out of here," she said, waving her hand at him, and he just smiled. Gunner sees a resemblance to his twin brother in her. That excitement in her eyes was exactly the same as her twin's. He is still amazed by the place, despite the fact that they have been here several times. "I wish you were here," he murmured in the wind, and he could already feel a hot liquid forming at the lid of his eyes, but he forced it to go away.
