One Chance
Adeline
The trees in the clearing started to move like they were becoming one, I pulled on Sophia’s hand trying to steady my body from the dizziness. Sophia gripped my shoulders, “Adeline, what’s wrong? You’re so pale”, she said. I could see the fear tracing her face which was becoming a slow blur. “It’s so hot out here, I think I have a fever. I’m fine. I just need to lay down”, I admitted, “please don’t scare Jaxon, he’s been through enough. My body is probably in over drive”.
It was clear that she was contemplating my request in her head, unsure at what the right thing to do was. “Don’t worry, I’ll tell Jaxon you must have caught a cold but I am going to call for the pack doctor to check you out just in case”, she finally exhaled and responded. She reached for my waist, guiding me back to the pack house. I was thankful that the enforcers were far enough behind that they couldn’t see my state, there was no doubt that they would inform Alpha Jaxon that I was barely holding it together
