The Shadows Lurking Behind
Adeline
Bailey and I wander through the hallways of the pack house in utter silence. The tension feels so thick in the air that I swear the oxygen is slowly dissipating. “So, how have you been? What’s new?, I ask as we reach the staircase. Bailey shrugs her shoulders, “not much. Same old Bailey, different day I guess”, she replies. "Oh come on, there’s gotta be something that’s happened since I’ve last seen you!”, I joke but Bailey doesn’t crack. Her expression remains serious and unbothered. She ignores my statement and continues walking up the staircase. By the time we reach the top of the stairs, I feel my stomach do somersaults when I set eyes on a guard that I’ve never seen before in the pack house. “Luna”, he says as he bows his head. There’s something ridiculously familiar about him even though I’m struggling to place my thumb on it.
“My apologies for the interruption”, he says in a stoic voice and I can’t help the unease I’m feeling. Something feels off, wrong, evil even maybe.
