Anthony's demeanor shifted dramatically when Bella refused to back down.
By the time the traffic officer arrived, Anthony had concocted a story, insisting he had been driving normally. "It was just that the both of us refused to yield," he claimed, conveniently omitting his fatigue and reckless speed.
The officer turned to Bella and asked, "Did you notice his vehicle coming out of the side road? Did you slow down or honk to avoid the collision?"
Bella bit her lip and said, "I didn't see him in time. He was going too fast."
Anthony jumped in, his voice loud and accusing. "Fast? Me? I was hauling cargo! Do you think I could speed with a loaded truck? I honked ages before I got on the road, but you didn't care! You were just barreling through!"
The officer frowned, clearly unimpressed. "Merging traffic must yield to vehicles on the main road. Didn't they teach you that in driving school? Stop shouting, and let's deal with this."
