Cassandra turned, stopping what she was doing at the sudden question, "What?" She tried to keep her voice casual.
"You heard me," Rebecca pressed on, her eyes narrowing. "I know you heard what I said. Your ears are like those of a bat, Cass. You pick up things even when I don't want you to. So, spill it. What's going on?"
Cassandra's gaze darted away momentarily before she returned Rebecca's stare. "I honestly don't know what you're talking about." Her voice carried a note of defensiveness.
"Come on, Cass. You're a terrible liar. And the fact that you can't come up with an excuse means you're trying to cover something up. So, what's the deal?"
