Janice got into her car, soaked to the skin, and drove in the pouring rain toward Dapville. Jacob was a graduate student in Dapville. He excelled academically and received full scholarships every year, which meant she rarely had to worry about him.
Ever since their mother passed away, it had just been the two of them. Without Jacob, Janice would feel like living no longer had meaning.
If that weren't the case, she wouldn't have endured Simon and the Fitzgerald family for so many years just because Hugh saved Jacob's life.
But everything that happened today, coupled with Simon's candid yet heartless words, made her feel that all her years of effort and sacrifices had been wasted on an ingrate.
She sped toward Dapville Hospital, driving above the speed limit.
Janice maintained a cold, stoic expression throughout the journey, focusing on staying calm. She couldn't afford to get into an accident—not when Jacob needed her.
