Warren stood ready at the doors, entire body tense like a coiled spring. I had no doubt he’d fight to the death to keep me safe, but I did worry about his ability compared to the others. I understood he was my last ditch attempt at safety.
“They really are all over the damn place.” Paxton shoved one dresser in front of the long windows. “This won’t do much, but I’ll do what I can. I don’t understand why there are so many of them. Too many people hated Dominic for this to be a revenge killing. Did you wolves get involved with something else?”
Warren glanced over, teeth grit. “No, but they’ve really taken Lucas far away. It’s like a piece of me got ripped out.” He raised his eyes to me. “You okay, princess?”
Is that what that dull aching was that threatened to pull me under? Like someone had reached inside of my brain and cut out a piece of it and taken it far away. “Is he?” I couldn’t bring myself to say the last word. Despite our initial encounter, I wanted to give him a chance.
