Chapter 6 Meet Me

A private number flashed with a message, 'Meet me after your meeting in my office.' - A.W. Seeing that, Scarlett frowned. She turned the cell phone screen towards Adrian. "Who is it?" Initially, Adrian wanted to shrug off, but when he saw a very familiar number on the screen, his hands trembled. Although he desperately wanted to ask her about what happened between her and Alexander, he chose to keep quiet. For now, nothing was more important than that meeting. Unknowingly, their lives were at stake. "Scarlett, listen to me," he paused and then continued, "Focus on your meeting. Jake is a hard nut. We can't risk it." Indeed, Jake was famous for his last-minute changes in the casting. Wilson Entertainment had invested around $100 million for 'The Entangled Destiny'. It was the dream project of Alexander's mother. So, by no chance, he was going to accept any discrepancy. The next moment, there was a loud sound of screeching of the car's tyre. They had reached their destination. "We've reached," Adrian announced. Although he wanted to accompany her due to Alexander's orders, he wasn't allowed. "Call me once you'll be done," he said, turning his eyes away. "What? You aren't coming with me?" Scarlett was confused. It was the first time in five years that he asked her to attend any meeting alone. "I've urgent work to attend to. Don't make it difficult, just go," Adrian pleaded. Without a word, Scarlett moved out of the car. To avoid any other emotional turmoil, Adrian drove away from the car without looking back. It was a sky-touching building called 'Culture of Art'. Seeing that a half-smile graced Scarlett's lips. She gulped before placing one foot in front of the other and walking through the revolving doors. Taking in the pristine marble floor and the gray-colored walls she walked past the security checks over to the reception. That man had perfectly given justice to his profession. The best interiors she had seen so far. She was standing in the reception area but there was nobody to be seen on the desk. While frowning, she turned her gaze towards her right in the hope that the receptionist would appear and help her out. "Yes! It's all confirmed. I will inform Mr. Davis to reach you." She heard someone saying those words and the sound of footsteps coming towards her. She was taken back for a moment, as it was very sudden but she still turned around to meet the owner of the voice. Her blonde hair was pulled up into a neat bun and her red-painted lips curled up into a smile as she motioned for me to hold on for a minute so she could get off the cell phone. Meanwhile, Scarlett looked around while trying to ignore the prying eyes of people walking to and fro from the building. A clearing of the throat snapped her attention to the woman who was sitting at her desk now. "Good evening. How may I help you?" She asked her while giving a small smile "I am here to meet Mr. Hilton." She started but the receptionist stopped her, "For the project, The Entangled Destiny'?" She asked her. Scarlett nodded her head in agreement. "You are late," the receptionist told her while tapping at the glass of her wristwatch. Scarlett was already nervous and now that. "But I was waiting for you." She tried to make some sense. After listening to her, the receptionist raised her brow and challenged her to speak further. "Your meeting was scheduled at thirty minutes past eleven." She was correct. "But it's almost twelve," she completed it. "Can you help me?" Scarlett immediately pleaded with her. "You are?" she asked her. Because the receptionist didn't seem to be a native, Scarlett ignored that she deliberately refused to recognise her. "Scarlett Anderson," she proudly replied. "Sorry Miss Anderson, but Mr. Hilton never allows anyone again in his office if they are not punctual," the receptionist informed Scarlett harshly. Tears started swelling up in Scarlett's eyes. It was the biggest opportunity of her life and she thoroughly messed up. More than regret, she was scared while thinking about the storm in the name of Alexander Wilson. His warning, his words, and his terrifying eyes, everything was flashing in front of her eyes. 'How am I going to face him?' Meanwhile, the receptionist glanced at her a little longer and forwarded her handkerchief towards her. "You still have a chance." Scarlett's eyes immediately looked up at her, "How?" She asked her. "Mr Jake Hilton has a flight at two in the afternoon. Before going to the airport he will check on the administration department. If you will convince him in this way." Then she immediately stopped in her tracks. "Good evening Sir." Scarlett heard one of the employees sitting to the left greeting a man. Immediately she looked up at the man wearing a black suit. He seemed to be in his late fifties with salt and pepper hair perfectly set. There were some wrinkle lines on his face and a stern look which overall made him look like a serious man. "Good luck." She heard the receptionist's words, "He is Mr. Davis if you are not aware." "That's your only chance, Scarlett," she whispered to herself. Then the receptionist moved towards him but without sparing a single glance at her. He started making his way outside. "Mr. Hilton." Scarlett tried to match his speed but he never stopped. "Mr. Hilton," she called his name again. "He is not available now. Come back later," one of the men who was surrounding him earlier said in a stern tone. "It's very important," Scarlett said. "If you have some project proposal. You can give details to Darcy, the receptionist. Once she is free. We will contact you," he replied. 'Oh! He is taking me as one of his clients,' Scarlett thought. "I am not a client," she finally uttered. "Not a client? Then are you a paparazzi? Sorry, mam! But we have already been denied an interview. Please leave," he said in a distasteful manner. Before he could assume anything else Scarlett said in a louder tone, audible to everyone there, "I am not a paparazzi as well." "Then?" He asked in a confused tone. "I am Scarlett Anderson, I'm here for a meeting for the project, 'The Entangled Destiny'." "Mr. Hilton has a flight. He is not available. Come back later," he instructed her. "Never come back to this office again." At that moment, Scarlett heard a loud and stern voice filling the atmosphere with absolute authority. Both of them moved towards the owner of the voice, "She is here for a meeting." The man standing beside her tried to clear it. "Her meeting was scheduled thirty minutes back. She wasted my time," Mr Hilton pronounced. "Oh! She is Scarlett Anderson." To which Mr Hilton nodded. "Only one meeting was scheduled. So it must be her if I am not wrong." Mr Hilton looked straight at me. "I will be grateful if you give me the last chance." Scarlett started but he brought his hand in front and signaled her to stop. "I gave you the chance but you ruined it." To be continued...
