Elijah arrived shortly after Trystan left.
Bethany and George lingered a bit longer by the lake before finally deciding to make their way back. On the way, George seemed visibly upset, lacking the enthusiasm he had on their journey there.
"Grandpa." Bethany tried to cheer him up. "I have to say, I haven't had this much fun in ages. Thank you for today."
George turned to look at her, his eyes overflowing with sympathy. "Really?"
Bethany nodded earnestly. Over the past year, she hadn't been out much with Trystan, let alone enjoyed a leisurely meal with him.
"Even though that rascal left halfway?" George's frustration grew as he spoke, his tone becoming noticeably harsher.
"It's okay," Bethany said with a thin smile. "Sometimes, enjoying the process is more important than the ending. I'm okay with that."
"You silly child." George ruffled her hair, feeling sorry for her.
Upon returning home, Bianca was already waiting at the door with a cold expression.
