Kira blinked away her tears and touched her son’s cheek. ‘No, not him. It’s from the hospital. Grandma has woken up.’
‘Oh, okay, that’s good,’ Joshua said.
‘Don’t worry, Jennie will be fine. Your dad and I will make sure of it.’
It took her another ten minutes to finally coax Joshua back to the bedroom and to tuck him in.
Kira waited for him to drift off to sleep before slipping out of the apartment.
She texted Isabel and begged her to come over to watch Joshua.

‘Upstairs.’
