Less than twenty metres away from Gideon’s position, Henry finished his brief, terse conversation with the general.
He stepped over corpses littered all over the forest floor and pushed the cabin door open.
Austyn was sitting on the floor, his back against the far wall.
He rested one hand over his knee and the other was curled around a gun, down to its last clip.
For a man under siege, he looked remarkably calm.
‘It’s been a while.’ Henry strolled over.
Austyn didn’t reply.
‘Do you know what I intend to do to you?’
‘You want me dead.’
‘That’s right, dear boy. You caused me a great deal of embarrassment, forced me to relocate, cost me millions—no, close to billions—in business losses. I’d say that’s a justifiable reason for wanting you dead.’
‘Then why are you still standing here, talking?’ Austyn saw the gun in Henry’s hand.
‘Why don’t you take a guess?’
‘Not interested.’
