Austyn shoved Gwen away less than a second after she hugged him.
Her back still hurt.
Austyn had pushed her so hard, she hit the edge of the dining table.
Kira sprinted back to her room.
Jennie was done with her dessert.
Her eyes lit up when she saw the door open.
Kira bent down to hug her.
‘Daddy!’
The girl ran right past her and clung to Austyn’s legs.
Kira stood stiffly on the spot.
She took a deep breath.
Austyn scooped up the little girl in his arms.
Kira held Joshua’s hand. ‘Let’s go home.’
The sensitive boy noticed Kira’s change in mood.
He said nothing and grasped Kira’s hand tightly.
‘Mr Maxwell, thank you for dinner.’
Maxwell stood up. ‘You are leaving so soon? But we—’
Kira was already out of the room before he finished.
Liam nodded at the principal from the open doorway before strolling away.
Maxwell was utterly confused by what was happening.
Kira stopped outside the restaurant and tried to hail a taxi.
Austyn came up to her. ‘I’ll give you a ride.’
