Kira was nodding halfway before she caught herself.
Then she shook her head.
The new version of Austyn was a little scary.
The snippets of conversation she’d overheard gave her an idea of his dark side.
She didn’t want to be in on his secret.
She looked away. ‘I’m tired. I’m going to bed.’
Austyn kept his hand on her shoulder, keeping her in place.
‘The car accident earlier,’ he said. ‘It wasn’t an accident.’
Kira looked up blankly. ‘What do you mean?’
The drunk driver suffered some minor scrapes and a major headache.
He was conscious and managed to crawl out of the car before the police arrived.
He apologised profusely to Kira and admitted, without prompting, that he was drunk.
At that time, Kira was more concerned about Austyn.
She didn’t pay much attention to the driver.
