Even Austyn had not thanked him, though Damian knew that deep down, Austyn was grateful.
He was just not used to expressing himself.
Damian smiled. ‘It’s no big deal. Brothers help each other. Besides, I might just get a promotion out of this trip.’
‘That doesn’t mean I can just take your help for granted,’ Kira said.
‘Okay, your gratitude is duly noted.’ The smile on his face grew wider. ‘It’s always nice to be appreciated.’
‘I won’t keep you then. Good night. And drive safe.’
‘Good night.’
Kira returned to the ward feeling more cheerful.
It was always nice talking to Damian.
He exuded a kind of brotherly affection that made Kira feel all warm inside.
‘Where’s Kai?’ she asked when she saw Austyn alone in the room.
‘He left to get some stuff.’
‘What stuff?’ Kira checked the time.
It was almost eleven o’clock, past time for Kai to go home.
He had just gotten off the plane that morning and he’d had a long day, just like his boss.
‘A change of clothes for you,’ Austyn said.
