Kira lay on the sofa and waited for the pain to subside.
Since the coffee table was out of commission, Jesse set down a tube of ointment on the arm of the sofa. ‘Apply to your bruises, three times a day.’
Kira didn’t hear him.
Jesse sighed.
He scribbled on a prescription pad, tore off the page and stuck it onto the tube of ointment.
Then he thought better of it and picked up the tube.
Before he left, he said, ‘I won’t tell Austyn about the daredevil stunt you tried to pull just now. But I’m serious. Don’t do it. A fall from this height is no joke, especially given your current condition.’
