Chapter 31 - Regrets
Jack lay in bed, lost in thought. He couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt and regret that had been plaguing him since his argument with Elsa. He had told her to stay away, to leave him alone, but now he couldn't help but wonder if he had made a mistake.
"Elsa, why did I say those things?" he whispered to himself, his voice barely audible. "Why did I push you away?"
He threw his arm over his eyes, trying to block out the memories of their argument. But they lingered, haunting him.
"I was just trying to protect myself," he muttered. "I didn't mean to hurt you."
But the words felt hollow, even to his ears. He knew he had hurt her, and he couldn't undo it now.
With a sigh, Jack tossed off his covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed. He might as well get some water since he was not going to sleep anytime soon.
As he stood up, his hospital gown flapped open, revealing the bandages on his chest. He winced, remembering the attack that had landed him in the hospital.
