The sounds of horror-filled screams filled the air. Usually, those sounds inspired dread but in this case, it was a source of rejuvenation. Jack had never felt more relieved, he was a bit annoyed that Kara had dodged the last of his shots but the cavalry was here.
Hurriedly, he removed a magazine from his pocket and slid along the extractor causing the gun to partially open. Following a quick shake, empty bullet casings fell to the ground.
Cautiously, he put the remaining magazine in the empty slot and closed the weapon. Afterward, he padded over to Elsa.
Her eyes were red with rage but there was something else behind those eyes; sorrow. She probably felt that way after learning that the woman whom she had been searching for was going to die. It was a hellish fate that he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy.
