Chapter 3 Jayce's Cheating

Caitlyn's POV When I groggily opened my eyes, I realized that everything around me appeared rather unfamiliar, but the ache in my body served as a reminder of last night's escapade. With newfound alertness, I sat up, only to find the room empty and abandoned. There, on the nightstand beside me, lay a key with a note tucked underneath. "This is a gift for you, little wildcat." I remained frozen in place, partly due to my own indulgence the previous night, and partly because of my surprise at the man's unexpected generosity. However, reason prevailed, and I left the keys where they were, escaping the house as if I were fleeing from something dreadful. Sitting in the car on my way home, I retrieved my cell phone from my bag. As soon as I turned it on, a flood of messages came pouring in—most of them from Leona's calls, interspersed with a few brief messages from my father. In the depths of despair, not a single message from Jayce had reached me, leaving me feeling utterly abandoned by the world. While I sat in the bath, letting the water flow over my body, I sensed a growing feeling of dirtiness. The image of Jayce's tender, smiling face crossed my mind, and this brought tears of humiliation to my eyes. "Would you like some breakfast, Caitlyn? I've made your favorite hazelnut cake." At that moment my father called from the door. Desperate to hide my pain from my father, I buried my head in my knees and clenched my teeth to stifle my sobs. Lying on my bed, I stared blankly at the empty ceiling, lost in my suffering. It was at this very moment that a familiar voice unexpectedly pierced the silence. "Caitlyn, stop lying in bed. I'm here." Hearing those words, my heart constricted violently, as though a needle had pierced it. Though I was still immersed in grief, I forced myself to feign composure. I didn't want Leona to mourn for me. Summoning all my strength, I managed to squeeze out a smile as Leona walked in. "Hey, don't stay cooped up in the house. Let's go for a walk together. I've discovered a fantastic pizza place that I know you'll love." Leona wore a long yellow dress today and her eyes were wistful as she spoke. Leona's eagerness was evident in her bright eyes. Reluctantly, I nodded, willing to accompany her. As we strolled through the town, the sun's warmth felt unfamiliar after days of isolation, and I felt extremely uncomfortable.. Yet, Leona seemed oblivious to my inner turmoil, eagerly indulging in tasty treats like a playful squirrel. "I must admit, I envy your werewolf physique sometimes. You eat so much and yet remain slimmer than me," I remarked, taking a small bite of one of the tacos Leona handed me. The cheese inside was so gooey that it made me cringe. Observing Leona's flat belly, I shook my head helplessly. "Come on, you have a perfect body, and when you and Jayce get married, you'll shift into a werewolf..." Leona's words trailed off as she leisurely devoured a steaming hotdog, but then she suddenly halted, her gaze fixated on a streetlight not far away, her brows furrowing slightly. Upon the utterance of Jayce's name, a sharp pang pierced my heart. I instinctively lowered my head, endeavoring to conceal the waves of sorrow that surged within me from Leona's watchful gaze. Leona, oblivious to the turmoil within me, clutched a delectable cupcake in her hand. As she readied herself to indulge in its sweetness, her gaze suddenly fixed upon the nearby streetlight, and she looked a bit weird. "What's the matter?" Sensing something amiss, I followed Leona's line of sight. Not far from the streetlight, a man and a woman stood, their faces bathed in the warm, yellow light. Amidst the watchful gazes of the onlookers, the handsome man leaned down, drawing closer to the girl's face. The girl responded by gently tiptoeing, her face adorned with a sweet smile, and she slowly closed her eyes. At that moment, the romantic music coincidentally filled the air, as if blessing the couple frozen in time. The surrounding audience joined in with cheerful applause and cheers. "Hey, that's..." Leona began to say, her voice trailing off. Leona stood frozen, wide-eyed, her chewing instincts abandoned, as she stared at the sight of the affectionate couple before us. "Jayce?!" she exclaimed in dismay, her voice drawing the attention of those around us. To my disbelief, the man at the center of the revelry, tall and handsome, was none other than Jayce, my fiancé of five years. And there, in that moment, I winced, clenching my lip so tightly that the pain allowed me to momentarily forget the nails digging into my flesh. Leona seethed, setting her food aside, ready to teach those shameless people a lesson. "Leona!" I interjected, stepping forward and gently pulling her hand, imploring her not to act impulsively. My heart ached, memories of our five years together flashed in my mind like fragile soap bubbles, now shattered. "Leona, stay with me," I entreated, gripping her arm tightly. If she were to expose Jayce's true nature, his position and authority as the future Alpha of the Purple Moon Pack would crumble. "Caitlyn, he cheated on you!" Leona's voice trembled with anger, her eyes fixed on the girl beside Jayce, holding his arm as they walked together, wrapped in sweet intimacy. "I recognize that woman, the eldest daughter of the Glorious Moon Pack Alpha, Morgana is her name. I've heard rumors of her having questionable relationships with several succeeding Alphas of nearby wolf packs, but I never thought Jayce would be entangled with her this time. Watch me go up there and wipe that disgraceful smile off her face!" Leona glared at Jayce and made her way towards him, her fury catching the attention of the onlookers who eagerly anticipated a dramatic spectacle. "Leona, please, if it comes to that point, it'll be irreparable, and father and I will be Rogues," I interjected, my lips pursed as I gently clasped her hand, though deep down, I knew my efforts to salvage the situation were futile. After today, my five years with Jayce would be nothing but a distant memory. "But he..." Leona began, her gaze fixated on Jayce's still innocent visage. She seemed on the verge of erupting into flames, clenching her teeth and hesitating repeatedly before reluctantly letting it go. Morgana snuggled up to Jayce's side, and the two of them disappeared hand in hand around the corner. Leona turned back to me and enveloped me in her arms, tenderly patting my back. Tears streamed down my cheeks, falling onto Leona's smooth arms, and I could feel her body trembling slightly. "Caitlyn, it's not worth getting upset over scum like that. Everything will be okay again," she comforted. I nodded silently, knowing that everything that transpired tonight would soon circulate among the pack, leaving me as the jilted fiancée, a complete and utter joke.
