Stacy suddenly appeared and rushed up to me, pushing me away. "We don't need your fake concern!" she snapped while giving me a scornful look.
Then, she turned to Gina, berating, "Mom, have you forgotten that it was Xavier who colluded with Dad's business partners, causing our family huge losses? Why are you thanking him? Are you brain-dead?"
Stacy's words brought a pang to Gina's heart. There she was, worrying about her husband, while Stacy couldn't be relied on. Instead, an outsider was comforting her, telling her not to worry. The thought left Gina feeling cold inside.
"Where were you just now? I asked the nurses to find you, and they said you weren't in your room," Gina questioned.
Stacy's eyes flickered with guilt. "I was in my room the whole time."
Facing Gina's suspicious gaze, Stacy became more defensive. "The nurses must have been lazy and didn't actually look for me. They lied to you."
She sounded more confident as she continued, "Mom, you're too easy to fool…"
