"Mr. Wright, this isn't appropriate." Alfie waved his hand in refusal.
He had never shared a table with me in a formal setting. As a bodyguard, he needed to maintain his employer's image, especially during a gathering among my friends.
I tapped the table. "What's inappropriate? Alfie, we're friends at this point; it's just a meal. It's not like I'm asking you to bow down to me. Sit down."
Under my insistence, he finally took a seat, though he still kept me in high regard in his mind.
Alfie thought of Cara and Karson. He wondered if following me could lead him back to those glorious days.
He smiled at the thought.
I didn't have to wait long for Sullivan to return; he was back in about 20 minutes. But when the door swung open, his expression wasn't great.
I raised an eyebrow, curious about what had happened.
Once Chase and the others entered, I understood why Sullivan was upset.
