Elior settled Jane back in her bed.
“You’re lucky.” He could not help but roll his eyes. “Don’t you know what state you’re in? How could you drink?”
After he said that, he stood up and walked out of the room, slamming the door shut behind him. Outside the door, Sean was smoking.
“Gimme one.” Elior stretched his hand out toward Sean. The latter took out his box of cigarettes and tossed the whole thing at Elior.
Elior was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. He lit a cigarette. “What’s happening here?” He glanced at the door behind him. He could still remember how the prideful Jane Dunn had gotten to her knees in front of so many people the very first time they met after her release from prison, all so she would not have to drink.
Sean continued smoking without a word.
