The office was bathed in the soft glow of afternoon sunlight filtering through the tall windows. Thane sat behind his desk, a stack of paperwork spread out before him. His office was surprisingly quiet. He tried to focus on the task at hand, his pen moving with purpose across the pages, but his thoughts were elsewhere.
Aurora occupied his mind, her absence felt like an echo in the empty office. He’d gotten so used to seeing her every weekday and was slowly coming to the realization that he liked being in her company. Her efficiency, her meticulousness, and the way she effortlessly managed his chaotic schedule had become an integral part of his daily routine. But circumstances beyond her control were responsible was her absence and he understood it. She’d been working for him for almost half a year; she deserved a break if he said so himself.
