Chapter 14
Selena saw the brown wolf slip into the trees. Running farther and farther into the shadowy depths of the forest, she roused her hurting muscles and fled the area that had given her the momentary luxury of calm. Her feet and flesh were scraped and sliced by branches hanging from the trees. Her frail body was being propelled through the thick woodland only by adrenaline and the warm sensation of being rescued from the horrific nightmare.
Selena jumped in terror at the unexpected sound of a bike in the distance behind her. She was aware that they were catching up to her, but it didn't matter. Nancy was free. She swiftly turned back and frantically searched the trees for her pursuers. She could only see trees and the sun, with the humming of the motorbikes growing gradually closer to her with each passing second.
Selena made a beeline for a small, hollowed-out alcove in the base of a nearby tree that was only big enough for one person. She threw her body into the space and rolled around
