With her heart thumping in her chest and the sound of hoofs diminishing behind her, Jasmine's breath came in ragged gasps as she stumbled through the trees.
She had been pursued by her sisters, no, she could no longer call them sisters. She had just barely succeeded in distracting them, causing them to fall off their horses, but not before getting hurt. Her flesh burned, her robe was ripped, and her energy was swiftly slipping away.
She lay there for hours, listening to the silence around her with faint breaths. She was afraid of being discovered, and her sisters might be close. Her heart raced with each snap of a twig and each rustle of leaves.
