Sylara gazed out over the vastness of Valtheon from the balcony of her apartments. Although the area was bathed in a golden glow from the low sun, she was not warmed by it.
Her heart was icy within, filled with sorrow and a growing rage that she could not control. She had been denied the barest minimum of respect by Kaveh, including the opportunity to grieve her sister's passing in a fitting manner.
No last goodbye, no Valtheon-style funeral procedures. Instead of being buried in Arcanis, under the control of the man who had stolen everything from them, Sonya deserved to lie next to their parents in the royal graves.
The weight of her loss pressed down on her as she held onto the balcony railing until her knuckles turned white. She was alone in the world now that her sister and parents had passed away, the thought of it was suffocating.
