As the evening wound down, the warmth of the day lingered, filling me with a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in a long time. The twins and I had returned to our hotel room, our mood light after the photoshoot. It had been perfect—a day where everything had fallen into place, where for a moment, I’d let myself believe that things were normal.
But then the peace was shattered.
Nathan was the first to notice something off. He had been checking his phone, scrolling through messages when he frowned. “Ella,” he said, his voice tight. “I can’t get through to anyone in Alaska.”
I blinked, the weight of his words taking a second to sink in. “What do you mean?” I asked, my tone sharp as I crossed the room to where he stood.
He handed me his phone, showing the screen filled with failed call attempts. “No one’s answering.”
Tristan, sitting by the window, glanced up. “That’s weird. I thought I saw a message from Adonis earlier.”
