Donn's hands were covered in various wounds, making for a shocking sight. The IV drip connected to him contained sedatives.
Perhaps it was the prolonged mental turmoil or maybe my resemblance to Isla, but Donn suddenly buried his face in my shoulder and cried. I mimicked Isla's tone, urging him to keep living.
"I'll always be by your side, Donn. I'll become a star in the sky, loving you forever."
These were the last words Isla had left for Donn.
He gazed at my face, too afraid to close his eyes, fearing I would vanish. But under the influence of the medication, he gradually succumbed to sleep.
After leaving the hospital, I inquired about Isla's grave and took an Uber to the location with a bouquet of white roses. The cemetery was desolate, with a few birds fluttering between the tall cypress trees, occasionally calling out.
The headstone was new, featuring a photo of Isla with a bright smile.
I gently brushed my fingers over the photo and whispered an apology, "I'm sorry
