There was an empty silence in the hallway as the doctor reached up to remove his mask from behind his ears. I stood across from him as my heart thumped in nervousness.
"The patient is still unconscious, but his vital signs are temporarily stable. He needs to be transferred to our hospital for specialized treatment."
Hearing this, I closed my eyes and let out a long sigh of relief. But the sudden release caused a wave of dizziness to wash over me, and everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes once more, I was lying alone on a hospital bed. The pure white ceiling above me stunned me briefly, and when I raised my hand, I noticed an IV drip attached.
Santiago, who'd been organizing some documents, paused and looked at me. "You're awake. You fainted from being too overwhelmed, so rest for a bit."
I looked up to see him flipping through a stack of papers. The ward was quiet except for the occasional rustling of papers. I watched as the IV drip flowed its way into my body.
