Chapter 149
The group of doctors in white coats looked like angels descending to Earth and brought a glimmer of hope for Darren's survival.
"Save him! Please save him!" I desperately pleaded as I gently lay Darren down for the doctors to examine.
One of the doctors quickly placed a stethoscope on Darren's chest while another opened a box and pulled out an unfamiliar device to attach it to his body.
Deep down, I prayed fervently to the heavens in hopes that these doctors could bring Darren back to life.
But Dr. Adkins stayed out of my sight and shook his head slightly. He reached out to stop Connor, who'd been hitting the wall in self-blame. "I know you've tried your best."
Connor's stern features were filled with self-blame. "Santiago, tell me the truth. If I had arrived just a few minutes earlier, would he have had a chance?"
I watched expectantly as the doctors worked on Darren. My heart burned with desperate hope for good news.
