The typing on his keyboard paused. "I won't bother you from rest. Goodnight."
I didn't utter another word to him and ended the call. Then, I saw a new message from Rene. "Cassie, I got the tickets. I'll see you tomorrow!"
"Okay," I replied.
I wasn't against going to the fireworks show. I simply wasn't going with Darren.
When I left in the evening, I took a quick detour to the park to check on Mom. The loud, deafening tunes of old, 60s music blared from the speakers. I spotted her right away, happily dancing along with the music with her friends.
I waved at her, and she approached me. "What's up, CeeCee?"
She wiped the sweat on her forehead. I couldn't help but remind her, "No intense activities, remember? Know when to rest and don't tire yourself out, alright?"
She nodded. "Alright."
