My mind was shut off, my emotions numb. The only thing I was doing was functioning on autopilot. So when Richard handed me his tablet, scrolled through some things, and pressed play before sitting down beside me on the couch, the only thing I could do was watch the screen as it showed Cassandra’s face.
“A few things have come to light,” she said. Her face was devoid of makeup, just as she had prepared herself when she had all but ruined my cousin’s reputation.
Her girlfriend kept pacing in front of me, but it was of no consequence. My mind was still focused on the video. “And I’m sure everybody’s going to want to know this,” Cassandra continued. “But Richard’s former agent has come out and said that everything was a lie. He claimed I was making stuff up and that he was only in it for the money. He admitted to stealing money from Richard for years, but blamed it on Richard. This is very explicit, and it clears my involvement.”
Cassandra cleared her throat, raising her hand
