Damianstepped forward, speaking to the officer with a level of calm that contrasted sharply with my own fear. They exchanged a few words, and I saw the officer’s expression shift from curiosity to concern.
“Alright,” she said, turning back to me. “We’ll do our best to find out where he is. The thing about cases like this with stalkers is that they always leave a part of themselves behind. I’m going to have to ask you to leave your apartment so we can do a full sweep, if that’s possible.”
I shook my head. “That’s fine,” I said. “Whenever you’re ready to take my statement, I’ll be here.”
Forensics quickly packed up their stuff and left. “We’re done here,” they said. “The whole place is clean. It’s almost as if whoever did this was a pro.”
I shook my head and began stepping backward when I was suddenly stopped by Damien’s chest. “It’s going to be okay,” he said, squeezing my shoulders comfortingly. “You’re going to be fine.”
As the officers gathered their things and left,
