Samantha hesitated for a moment before saying, "Mr. Lynch Senior, your body isn't how it used to be. It's best if you get some rest, or you'll collapse before Joseph comes home."
In truth, she couldn't care less about what Joseph and Eric were doing. The last thing she wanted was for Harold to defend her at the expense of his health.
A grim look passed over Harold's face, and there was a sharp look in his wizened eyes as he countered, "Stay out of this, Samantha. I'll teach that brat a lesson when he comes back."
The old man sounded so insistent that Samantha didn't bother dissuading him. She grabbed a throw pillow from the couch and propped it up behind Harold.
The seconds ticked by, and Joseph had not returned even when the clock struck 8:00 p.m.
Yvonne, who so rarely got angry, snapped, "What the hell is Joseph doing? Why hasn't he come home? It's been seven hours! Even if he were to walk home, he should have arrived by now."
