Teri circled the flower, her gaze searching. "No card. It doesn't look like something CEO Mr. Wood would send. Ari, do you have any other admirers?"
"Do I look like I do?" I shot back.
Just then, my phone rang. An unfamiliar number flashed on the screen. I frowned, hesitant to answer. My gut feeling told me this wasn't going to be good.
Teri answered the call for me. As soon as she said "Hello," her expression turned sour. She quickly left the room, phone in hand, and I could hear her yelling in the hallway.
"Elijah, are you out of your mind? Why are you harassing Ari? What? It's none of my business? I wish I'd gotten involved sooner and stopped Ari from getting involved with you… from falling for you…"
She paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. "You're messed up, and so is your whole family! Playing both sides like this—aren't you worried it will all blow up in your face?"
