I wasn't expecting Jonathan to know about it. I ended up panicking after the shock. I wasn't sure what he had found out, but it seemed like he knew nothing at all.
I stammered, "Oh, nothing much. Mrs. Wood is nice and soft-spoken, but I'm just not that close to her."
I started making up random stories. Jonathan clearly did not buy it. "Didn't she say anything harsh? Didn't she ask about the divorce?"
I couldn't come up with anything, so I just said, "She didn't ask. Maybe Logan had already explained everything for me."
Jonathan barely believed me. "Ari, you've been divorced once—you have to be careful the next time you date. If the Wood family looks down on us, we shouldn't cling to them. After all, you can't force things to make it happen."
I fell silent hearing his words, and a wave of sadness washed over me. Marrying Elijah was considered settling, but if I married Logan, I'd be clinging to him.
