The next morning, Whitney showed up out of nowhere. She looked drained and pale—nothing like the confident person I used to know.
"Rhea, you won. Completely," she said.
I didn't feel anything about how Whitney turned out—no pity, no urge to rub it in.
"I wasn't trying to beat you. I bet Silas would forget you, but I guess I lost that one," I said.
Whitney gave a bitter laugh. "Doesn't matter. I was already planning on leaving him."
"What about the baby?"
"I'm getting rid of it. He's not stopping me. He told me he'd give me some money to make up for it."
My heart dropped. I had a bad feeling about this.
Whitney sighed when she saw my face. "You probably already know. He's lost it. He won't give up on you, no matter what happens to me or the baby. You'd better watch yourself…
