Alexander raised an eyebrow, letting out a short laugh. "Are you interrogating me? Why would I feel the need to answer you?"
Wren leaned forward, his tone measured but firm. "It's not an interrogation. I'm just worried about Clara. As someone who's been her guardian since she was a child, I need to know who's around her. It's only then that I can have peace of mind."
He could have someone investigate Alexander's background, but gathering information would take time in a place as remote as this. A direct conversation seemed more efficient.
