Chapter 53
The mention of Ivy made Wren's face twist with frustration and disdain.
"If I miss it, so be it," he said sharply. "I never planned to go through with that engagement anyway."
Shea raised an eyebrow, caught off guard by Wren's bluntness. Wren lowered his gaze, his voice dropping into a murmur, almost as if talking to himself.
"If Clara's gone, what's the point of any of this?"
The last part was so quiet that Shea didn't catch it. But the tone of contempt in Wren's earlier words was impossible to ignore, and neither was the flicker of rage in his eyes when Ivy's name came up.
Shea pieced it together quickly—Wren didn't care about Ivy. He never had. It explained so much, and yet it didn't surprise Shea at all.
He had always found Wren's sudden decision to pursue Ivy out of character. Now, it made sense.
Still, Shea wasn't about to push. Wren clearly wasn't in the mood to explain himself, and Shea knew better than to pry. He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms.
