Katrina's instincts told her that Wren wouldn't give up so easily. "Clara, maybe Wren's feelings for you aren't as—"
"Aunt Katrina," Clara interrupted, her voice strained. "Please, let's not talk about it anymore. It ends here."
She and Wren had reached their end. From now on, with miles and miles between them, living their own separate lives was the best thing for both of them.
Katrina immediately understood. She sighed, full of regret, but she also felt a sense of relief. Seeing Clara accept reality and let go showed strength and clarity that even Katrina admired.
Katrina thought Clara was far more grounded and resilient than she was.
"I understand," Katrina said softly. "Take care of yourself over there. I'll come visit you during my free time."
