Chapter 16

“Me?” Monique Xander pointed at herself with her fair, slender index finger and asked Mandy Jane doubtfully. ‘Me? There must be some kind of mistake!’ Mandy nodded with certainty but the look she gave Monique was odd. Everyone there was curious. Some were guessing that she would not come out alive before getting a severe reprimand! Monique was a little nervous. She walked into the office fully alert to see a black-and-white themed space filled with an extraordinary luxurious leather couch and a solid refined wood desk. Even the few artworks by court painters on the wall were highlighting his exceptional identity. The furniture was simple yet adequately extravagant. Henry Moore was seated on a black couch beside a wide French window with his back facing her. He looked like a divine being from the back due to his inborn elegance. His pose was effortlessly sophisticated and graceful. His side profile reminded Monique of a towering mountain in the panoramic scenery, complemented with his grim manner. His aquiline nose, coolly-arched brows, and unimpaired contour looked as if they were deftly carved. He was giving out a particular intimidating vibe although he was just sitting there casually. Monique felt uneasy and her heart was pounding as if it would fall out any second. That was her first time to be in a luxurious place like this. The chairman must be extremely wealthy. ‘Why is he asking to see me? Did I offend him by spilling coffee?’ There was a hellish coldness emitting from him despite his poker face. She could sense a suffocating tension from his strong presence although there was some distance between them. “Hi, about the coffees, it was an accident. I will clean them up right away!” Monique took a deep breath and explained with caution. “There is a break room here. Go change out of your dirty clothes.” Henry moved his lips insouciantly, his voice deep and magnetic like a cello yet somewhat nonchalant. He did not turn around at all! He did not want to see her in such a filthy state. Monique looked at her clothes drenched in coffee and realized that he called her over so that she could change. Her heart was filled with warmth instantly and her fear subsided. She thought that he was unhappy with her for spilling the coffees. “I’m fine, thanks!” said Monique with a smile. She did not intend to change because she wanted to leave as soon as she could to finish her work in the café. She had to go home early so that she could make it in time to prepare dinner for Little Nomi. “Go now!” Henry raised his brow in displeasure, his tone gloomy. He did not expect her to decline, any woman would die to hear him say those words. Although he was repulsed by her filthy state, she was still dumb to reject his kindness. “I appreciate it, but really, no thanks. If there’s nothing else… I should go.” Monique wanted to say this. Henry turned his head sideways and looked over her direction before she could finish. He was striking, flawless even, with his coolly arched brows, jet black eyes, and aquiline nose. However, his dark eyes were deep with meaning, which was somewhat intimidating. Monique could not help but quivered and retracted her words. A hint of panic flashed in her dark sparkly eyes as she was getting a sense of menace from the gorgeous man sitting opposite her. She felt like he would tear her into pieces if she still refused to change. She then walked to the break room dispiritedly. Noticing that he seemed unhappy when she refused to change, Monique had many questions but she was actually in a hurry to go back. Henry raised a brow in amusement as he looked at her walking toward the break room dejectedly. He was certain that plenty of other women who were desperate to get associated with him would jump at the chance to change if he requested yet the woman just now seemed to be eager to leave. He was entertained for some reason. The man said that it was a break room, but it was actually a gigantic room! The blue-themed room loaded with clothes and shoes looked cozy and harmonious. It could be a miniature mall! Monique blinked her eyes in shock. The shirts, trousers, and tees hanging in the closet had a simple style but they looked very expensive and in excellent quality, some of them even still had their tags on. Monique walked closer for a peek and her mouth fell open with shock. All of them had logos of luxury brands. She finally picked a white tee that looked the cheapest and a pair of black shorts. The shorts were too big so she had to tuck the tee in. The tee’s quality and texture were excellent and it felt very comfortable on her. However, Monique felt a little awkward because that was her first time wearing someone else’s clothing, not to mention a man. She kept her clothes in a bag and walked out with her head lowered like a scaredy-cat. Thump. She knocked into something by accident. She looked up and saw an impeccable face with refined features and a pair of charming grim eyes. That man was unbelievably handsome. Monique felt her heart thumping like a bunny just from being in close contact with him. “Thank you, but all the clothes inside looked too expensive.” Monique flushed and tried to hide her embarrassment and anxiety behind her dark expressive eyes. “This tee should be the most inexpensive one. I’ll change when I get back and clean it before returning it to you.” Monique guessed that that tee was the cheapest one since there was no price tag on it. Henry had just got off a call after using the washroom when he was knocked into. There was slight irritation visible in his expressive eyes as he stared down at her with a domineering aura. Her face was innocently beautiful like the sky after a storm. Her dark, sleek short hair was resting on her fair cheeks blushing with embarrassment and her huge eyes were as clear as the purest gemstones. The tucked white tee which outlined her sylphlike curves looked casual and fresh, she gave off a youthful vibe. Henry observed that Monique seemed to be uninterested in expensive luxurious clothes as he could not sense any greed or adoration from her eyes. There was literally none. “The most inexpensive one?” Henry raised a brow and smiled mysteriously. Monique was panicking because of his smile, she could not even think straight. His extremely attractive smile was coquettish and obscene to the confused Monique at that moment, she felt like a little bunny being stared at by a big bad wolf. ‘What is he doing?’ Monique raised her head with puzzlement and stared at him with disbelief. ‘It can’t be… Was he peeping?’ It was no wonder that he insisted that she change! All of her questions were answered! Her gratitude was a waste! Who would have known that this extremely gorgeous man was a voyeur? What a pervert! She spoke her thoughts out loud without realizing it.
