Chapter 7

Detective cooper was a workaholic. His dream has always been centered around serving the community. His father was killed by unknown gunmen after he stood out among his peers to win the state contract. Cooper knew there was more to the case but the police didn't look to further into it. Since that occurrence, his dream became clearer. There has been report of missing people in Chester for a long time that the police had ignored because it's always led to a dead end but this time a body was found. The last report of a missing person was the butcher in Pennywise street. He was found and had no memory of what happened when he was missing. It was assumed that he sleepwalked and went too far. The doctors also assumed amnesia was the reason why he remembered nothing. Cooper sat in the office watching the CCTV video of Violet over and over again but it wasn't making any sense to him. He had requested for the result of the autopsy of the victim and was waiting for it to come in. A knock came on his office and it was Garry bringing in the autopsy result. It showed that he was attacked by an animal but there were strands of red hair on his hand and body which matched a woman's hair. "Have you don't test on this hair to find out whose it is?" Cooper asked "We need a sample to test if it matches." Garry replied. "Alright I'll get you one." Cooper remembered that Violet is red haired and quickly prepares to leave his office. As detective Cooper drove to Violet work place all he could think of was how he would get her hair sample. He had no warrant so his only option was to steal a sample. He knew he was crossing a line here but he was sure the he was right. Violet was having her lunch break in her office when detectives Cooper came looking for her. He asked around and Luca led hem to her office. She did not give a pleasant look when she saw Detective Cooper. She lost apatite immediately she sighted the him. "Hello Miss Violet!" He greeted. Violet wanted to spit spit out the burger in her mouth due to her loss of apatite but she held on to it. She chewed it forcefully and swallowed painfully. She gave the detective a fake smile and gulped her juice. "Hello detective, I don't remember us having a date. As you can see I'm on my launch break and I'll have to go back to work now." "Oh I won't take your time Miss Violet, I was in the area and I just wanted to see how you are doing after all that incident." "Hmm so this is just a casual visit? How kind Detective." She smiled. There was an awkward silence between them for a moment. "I also want to borrow a book from here, what would you recommend for me?" He asked buying himself some more time. "Ok what do you like, mystery, thriller, historic?" She asked laying options down. "Oh maybe mystery!" He said. "Oh Touché! Let me wash my hands and I'll be back." She quickly rushed to the bathroom to wash her hands. Detective cooper saw a good opportunity to search for her hair sample. He searches through her bag, removed strands of her hair from her hairbrush in a hurry, kept it in his pocket and hurried back to his seat. Violet led him outside the main library and selected a book for him. They were bidding their farewell when a presence walked into the library, it was magnificent. It was as if the atmosphere was automatically on slo mo. Luca turned around and didn't know when he uttered the word "Damn!" Out loudly. The richly selected coffee brown coat, the silky hair and skin that synchronized with the "Golden hour" of the sun. It was like pure gold walked in library, pure blue eyes that you wouldn't Mind getting lost in. He stood tall like he was sculpted by the gods. Necks were turned both men and women. Steel walked into the library, not minding the commotion he had just caused in people's memory and met Violet and Detective Cooper on his way in. Violet was speechless, she didn't know how to act. "Mr Duplantier!" Detective Cooper called out with absolute delight on his face. He shook his hands vigorously like he was never going to let go. "Detective Cooper, how are you these days?" Steel smiled and patted his back. "Splendid sir, what brings you to this part of town. I know you're a very busy man." He couldn't control the smile and excitement that filled him. It was like he just met his celebrity crush. Violet studied his movement and smile, and couldn't hide her smile either when she realized that the detective actually has a huge sexual crush on a vampire. "Just looking to borrow a book, hello miss!" He faced Violet "Can you direct me?" He said trying to dismiss the detective but the detective was lost in his imagination. He just stood there smiling. "Alright detective, I'll pay a visit to the station soon. Take care" He walked away. "We expect your visit Mr. Duplantier." The detective took his leave. "This way Mr. Duplantier." Violet squeaked a little at the name. "Duplantier!" She mumbled quietly again but this time, she was holding herself from bursting into laughter. "Can we go to your office please?" He asked quietly and she led him on. "What is funny about my name Violet?" He asked in a straight face. "For the record, my name is Damien Duplantier, And I've asked that detective to Stick to Damien several times. But I don't know what he thinks of." He complained. "He's probably thinking of how to get into your pants." She giggled. "You have a lovely name too. How did you know where I work and How can you walk in the sun?" She curiously questioned him. "Forget the first question, how can you walk in the sun?" "I come bearing gifts." He ignored her questions. He smiled and put his hands to His pockets to hand her strands of her hair. She looked confused "Wow you really know how to please a lady." She said sarcastically while holding the strands of hair up. "It's your hair, I got it from the detective's pocket during our little romance." He said. "What was he doing with my hair?" She was dumbfounded. Steel gave her a stare. "Oh I have to explain this to you?" He sighed. "No never mind, I get it." She put two or two together to figure it out. "So is That why you came here today? I thought you wanted to take me on a date." She smiled. "Err look Violet, you are not my type." He said unapologetically. "I don't want to date a vampire either!" She whispered aggressively and gave him a mean look. "I'm glad that we are on the same page!" He said. Violet saw Steel out of her office and Luca found a way to get himself in front of Steel. "Violet, you did not introduce me to you friend, Hello I'm Luca." He stretched his hand forward. "Hello Luca, I'm Damien." Steel shook his hand. "Yea he's my friend, he was just passing by, and he's leaving now." Violet chuckled nervously and paved the way for Steel, then saw him off out of the library. She noticed him going into a black "Aston Martin vantage". She didn't know what year it was but it looked hell of expensive. "Oh wow!" she muttered under her breath and went into the library. Luca was waiting for her. He gave her a scolding look. She knew what that look meant but she didn't even know what version of lie to tell him. "You've been hoarding this sweet gist from me all this while uh? How could you? I thought we were best friends!" Luca kept ranting. "Wow he is so fine! Please say yes! I know he's asking you out, don't mess this up ok?" Luca continued. "Well we just met and I'm trying to take things slow, he is so into me. But I still have Chris," Violet had to keep up with the lie. And trying to make herself feel better. "Oh Chris! He lives? Argh!" Luca sighed and walked away. "Look forget about Chris for now and tell me about Damien. is he married?" "Err I haven't asked. Do you think he is?" She wondered if vampires got married. Well if he was married or not, a vampire is not an option for her. That's ridiculous! She thought. She got a call on her phone and it was from Chris. She excused herself from Luca to receive the call. "Hey love, you didn't reply my text. How are you?" Chris asked. "How do you think After running off like a mad man from my bed room this morning?" She said angrily. "I'm very sorry my love. You know I can't be fully free until I finalize the divorce. My wife is out of town for real this time and I got us flight tickets to Maldives for the weekend." Violet couldn't lie to herself but Chris really knew how to bribe her. She felt he could use some time off after the past few days. She smiled over the phone. "Alright baby, I'll pack a bag." she giggled.
