CHAPTER FIFTY TWO – WOUNDS OF THE PAST
Madison watched their easy rapport and banter, her chest aching. They reminded her so much of how she and Ethan used to be together. Constantly teasing, stealing kisses, unable to get enough of each other...
She shook her head, banishing the memories again. "Well, I'll go get Donald and we can eat."
As if on cue, her son bounced eagerly into the room. "Kyle! Aidan! You're here!"
He rushed over and hugged them both tightly. Madison felt a twinge of jealousy at how effortlessly Donald loved them, while it was such a struggle for her with Kyle most days.
Over dinner, Aidan cheerfully led the conversation, keeping things light and friendly. He asked Donald all about school and his baseball team, letting the boy ramble endlessly.
"And then at my last game, I hit an actual home run!" Donald's eyes were wide with excitement. "You should have seen it, it went so far!"
