CHAPTER TWENTY THREE – THE STALKER STRIKES AGAIN
Madison’s heart pounded a frantic rhythm against her ribs as she marched towards the kitchen in her childhood home, where the source of the delicious aroma undoubtedly resided.
There, in a pristine white apron, stood Veronica, a picture of domestic bliss as she flipped golden rolls on a baking sheet. But the scene did little to mask the smug smirk that played on her lips when she saw Madison.
"Well, well, well," Veronica drawled, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Look who finally decided to grace us with her presence."
Ignoring the jab, Madison marched straight up to her. "Don't play innocent with me, Veronica," she said, her voice tight with suppressed anger.
Veronica raised an eyebrow, a playful smile flitting across her face. "Whatever do you mean, dear sister?"
"The fire, the vandalized car, the note… how much lower are you going to stoop?"
