Chapter 2 Can You Not Leave?
I saw the door opening before I could react. He was soaked. He then went into the bathroom without even batting an eye at me. Later, the sound of water splashing came from the bathroom.
I could not sleep with Curtis doing that, so I got up and got dressed. I took out his pajamas from the closet and put them in front of the bathroom. Then, I went to the balcony.
It was the rainy season, and it was drizzling out there. The sky was dark, and I could vaguely hear the raindrops hitting the tiles.
I turned around upon noticing that there was movement behind me. I realized Curtis was already out of the bathroom. He had a towel wrapped around his lower body, and his hair was dripping wet. So much for a man’s temptation.
Curtis probably noticed me staring at him, so he gazed at me while scowling. “Come here!” He said in an emotionless tone.
I was obedient, so I walked to his side. He then threw the towel at me and said in a raspy voice, “Dry my hair.”
He always treated me like that, and I was already used to it. He sat on the bed, and I got on it, kneeling behind him while drying his hair.
“Tomorrow’s your grandfather’s funeral. Let’s go there earlier,” I voiced out, not to change the topic deliberately, but his attention was all on Anna. Hence, he would have forgotten about it if I did not mention it to him.
“Alright!” That was his only reply to me.
I knew that he was reluctant to interact with me, so I kept quiet. After I finished drying his hair, I laid on the bed again as I was ready to fall asleep.
I felt exhausted, probably because I am pregnant. Usually, Curtis would be in the study until midnight after he had his shower. However, I did not know why he was on the bed after he changed into his pajamas.
I did not ask any questions, although I felt strange. Suddenly, Curtis hugged me, pulling me into his arms, and he kissed me a few times.
“Curtis, I…”
“You don’t want to?” He uttered as his eyes were as dark as night, exuding a freezing and wild aura.
I looked down, and even though I was unwilling, it was not for me to decide.
The baby was only 6 weeks old. Thus, if I was not careful enough, the kid might be in danger.
Curtis frowned, and he rolled over to the other side without uttering a word. I was in so much pain that I curled up, trying to protect my baby from harm.
The rain was getting heavier outside, and suddenly, thunder rumbled. The lights were on and off, so Curtis went into the bathroom after some time.
I was sweating because of the pain. I planned to take some painkillers initially, but I gave up on the idea for the sake of my child.
“Buzz…” The phone rang. It was Curtis’ phone. I lifted my eyes and took a glance at the time. It was 11:00 PM.
Only Anna would call Curtis at this time.
The sound of water splashing in the bathroom stopped. Curtis got out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around him. He wiped his hand and answered the call, but I did not know what he said on the phone.
However, I saw Curtis frown slightly as he yelled, “Anna, stop being reckless!”
After Curtis finished his sentence, he hung up the phone and was about to leave after changing his clothes. Back then, I would just keep my eyes shut and act like I did not see anything, yet I held onto him as I begged him in a gentle tone. “Can you not leave tonight?”
Curtis scowled, and there was a cold and unpleasant aura radiating from his handsome face. “Are you trying to be cheeky after you've got an edge on me?”
His words were frigid and ironic.
I was stunned, and I felt like a joke at that moment. Still, I looked at Curtis and said, “Tomorrow’s your grandfather’s funeral. So, you’d control yourself even if you can’t let go of her. Shouldn’t you?”
“Are you threatening me?” Curtis squinted his dark eyes, and he used his hand to choke me violently while responding to me in an indifferent tone, “You’re really something now, Julia.”
