I cleaned up my office for a bit and got my car keys with me. Then, I waited for Vivian at the stairs, and luckily she was quick. She handed me the agreement after a while.

“I know!” I interrupted her. I got into the elevator and said, “Focus on your work. I know what to do.”

I went to the parking lot, started my car, and drove straight to the place that I had planned to meet Edward.

The People’s Cafe was a fine dining western restaurant. The cafe was decorated elegantly with European style, and their dishes were exquisite as well. Since the food there was quite pricey, the environment was peaceful and quiet because most of the people who came here were rich and wealthy.

I was brought to my table when I entered the cafe because I had already made a reservation. To my surprise, Edward was already there.

I saw that Edward was in casual attire. He looked clean and neat, and he was sitting beside the window graciously. His slender fingers were tapping on the table as he looked free and relaxed.

“I’m sorry for being late!” I sat opposite him, and I voiced out to signal the waiter to order.

Initially, Edward was enjoying the scenery, and he turned his head upon realizing that there were some noises. He was delighted to see me, and he smiled at me as he uttered, “A pretty lady is buying me dinner, so there’s no reason for me to be late, right?”

I rarely saw him smile, so I handed the menu over to him and spoke delightfully, “Has anybody told you that you look especially gentle and clean when you smile?”

Edward frowned, but he did not take the menu from me as he was hinting at me to order. He then squinted his eyes while answering me, “You’re the first one to say so!”

I laughed as I did not fight with him over the menu. Therefore, I ordered some food, especially the dishes that he might fancy.

I took a sip of water after I handed the menu to the waiter. I saw him glancing at me with a smile on his face as he did not utter a word.

I was a little surprised by Edward. I put down the glass of water and asked him curiously, “Is there anything on my face?”

He laughed, and I could see that he was in the mood. “This is the first time I’m having a meal with my brother’s wife, so it feels…”

Edward hesitated for a moment, and joy radiated from within his eyes as he continued. “Not bad!”

As the saying went, birds of a feather flocked together. Usually, people around the cold and unfriendly Curtis were not easy to understand.

Nonetheless, I did not doubt what he said, and I was not going to ask what he really meant. I looked at him as I went straight to the point. “If I’ve got something that needs your help, will you help me?”

Edward raised his eyebrows as his thin figure leaned back. After that, he questioned me, “What can I help you with?”

“I need supplements and medicine for women that had an abortion!”

Edward frowned. “That’s it?”

I nodded. “I’d already heard that Doctor Finn is a prodigy, so I want you to prescribe some medicine and supplements for recovery after an abortion. Do you think you can help me with it?”

Anna was crying woefully. She was experiencing a mental breakdown as she grabbed at Curtis. She looked like a lost kid, pitiful and helpless.

Hence, Curtis hugged Anna in his arms and comforted her. “You’re not alone, Anna. You won’t be alone. Calm down!”

Anna gazed at Curtis with both of her swollen eyes. “Don’t let her give birth to the baby, please? I beg you, Brother Curtis. Don’t let her give birth to the baby, or else I’ll kill myself!”

Her words were determined and firm.

Curtis glanced at her, and his thoughtful eyes were filled with hostility. “Anna, stop messing around!”

Upon hearing this, Anna pushed him away all of a sudden. At the speed of light, she picked up a knife beside her and used it to cut her wrist.

It all happened in an instant. I never imagined that Anna would be so extreme, and Curtis did not think of it as well. He froze, trying to contain his nervousness as he carried Anna to the emergency ward.

However, Anna held onto the bed rails tightly as she did not plan to let go of them. She stared at Curtis furiously and shouted, “Don’t let her give birth to the baby!”

I was overwhelmed by Anna. How determined was Anna to make sure that I did not give birth to the baby? I stared at Curtis and voiced out, not wanting to wait for him to say something, “Anna, don’t you worry about it. The baby, I…” I suppressed the pain in my heart and uttered calmly, “I won’t give birth to the baby!”

“Julia!” Curtis was mad, and his dark eyes had turned red.

“If you don’t send her to the doctor, you’ll experience more pain when she dies!” I suppressed the bitterness in my throat and said.

Curtis pressed his lips together, and he glanced at me strangely with his eyes that were as dark as night. Then, he quickly carried Anna to the emergency ward.

In the empty ward, I gazed at the blood that Anna spilled by cutting her wrist. It gave me chills, and it was unpleasant to look at.

My fever subsided, but I still needed to be put on a drip. I did not have the mood to stay any longer in the hospital, so I refused to have the IV drip because I wanted to be discharged from the hospital immediately.

All of New Kirkland looked fresh after a heavy storm. However, I did not return to the villa after leaving the hospital as I went straight to Blake Corporation.

When I arrived at Blake Corporation, the receptionist quickly came up to me and said as she saw me, “Director Moore, Director Luke’s wife is waiting for you at your office. She has been waiting for you for about 15 minutes.”

I nodded while pushing the elevator button, and then I said to her, “Ask Vivian to help me prepare some gifts and present them to Madam Luke later. It doesn’t need to be too expensive, but it must be something meaningful.”

The receptionist nodded.

I got into the elevator and pressed the floor button. After that, I called Edward, and he picked up my call after 2 beeps. “Julia Moore!”

He surprised me because that was the first time Edward called me by my full name. I frowned a little and asked, “Are you free tonight? Can we meet?”

Edward seemed to be shocked. He paused for a moment before he continued, “Alright. What about the time and venue?”

“I’ll let you know later!” The elevator door opened when it reached my floor. Thus, after I hung up the phone, I sent Edward the specific time and venue.

After that, I went to the washroom to fix my makeup before going back to my office.

I did not come up empty after being with Curtis for 2 years. Even though I failed to make him fall in love with me, I did achieve a lot in my career.

At least I grew from a rookie to somebody that could solve any problem effortlessly. It was still considered as growth after all.
