He rubbed his eyes in a playful, almost disappointed manner. “I’ve been waiting this whole time, and you’re leaving me after just one bite?” Maria exchanged a quick glance with Mace White and smiled. “Of course not.” The next second, she slid her plate toward Eldred. “Here, try some of mine. I think you’ll really like it.” She used a fork to cut a portion and handed it to him. Eldred, looking surprised and pleased, exclaimed, “Thank you! See, we actually make a pretty good team!” He wore a flattering expression and even tried to reach out to hug Maria, but she quickly pushed his hand away. “Could you stay a little further away from me?” Eldred shrugged, looking at his rejected hand with disappointment.
