"No surveillance cameras?"
The moment Yvette heard this, her brief hope vanished, and her shoulders slumped.
Helena nodded. "And to make matters worse, the only camera outside the restroom, which had the right angle, malfunctioned that night. It didn't capture anything."
While the camera couldn't have shown what happened inside the restroom, it would at least have recorded who went in and out. If Rachel had never gone into that restroom, it would have proven she was lying.
But somehow, conveniently, the camera outside wasn't working that night.
Whitney thought for a moment, then looked at Yvette. "That's why Jenny was so confident. Even when you suggested checking the footage, she stayed completely calm."
At the time, Jenny had been standing right beside Rachel. When Yvette mentioned reviewing the surveillance footage, Whitney had caught a glimpse of Jenny's face. There hadn't been even a flicker of panic.
