Whitney immediately stepped back, putting several feet of distance between herself and Noel. She moved like a frightened rabbit, her wide eyes darting around nervously to check her surroundings.
Noel chuckled, clearly amused. "You're making it too obvious. Anyone watching would figure us out in no time."
Even if nothing was going on between them, what kind of relatives kept that much distance between each other? Her behavior practically screamed guilt.
Realizing she had overreacted, Whitney took a cautious step closer.
"What if Grandpa finds out?" she asked, her voice low.
"What do you think we should do?" Noel replied, his gaze steady.
"Deny everything, of course!" Whitney said without hesitation.
Though a part of her had started to feel something for Noel, she quickly snuffed out those feelings. No matter what Grandpa knew or didn't know, she wouldn't admit to anything. Keeping her distance was the only option.
