Something about all this felt off.
Andrew emerged from the bathroom after his shower, now dressed in comfortable loungewear. The gray cashmere sweater he had been wearing earlier was carefully folded and stored away with a reverence that seemed almost ceremonial.
The basement was now spotless.
Melina lay on the soft mat, waving him over. "Andrew, come here. The sunset is beautiful."
Andrew walked over and lay down beside her.
The two looked up through the clear skylight, where the glass revealed a fiery sunset painting the sky red.
"It really is beautiful," he murmured.
Who would have thought that sharing such simple moments could bring so much joy?
Since Melina had arrived, he had been able to eat his fill, stay clean, and even watch sunsets together.
So this was what it meant to live.
